Educational
Presentations
General Guidelines
-
Each presentation should be limited to 60 minutes, including Q & A.
Please submit a copy of your electronic
presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint to the
Conference Host prior to August 1, 2008.
(Note:
Moderators are assigned to each session and
they will contact each speaker in advance to
go over any special instructions.)
-
Please remember to keep the size of your
presentation file to a minimum. For example,
reduce the image size of digital images, do
not link your graphics to another file
(rather, paste as a “picture”), avoid video
clips, where possible. If you need to use
video, please coordinate with your session
moderator and have them contact the AV
contractor at the hotel.
-
Please consider using the general format
below as you prepare your presentations: a.
The speaker introduction by the
moderator should be approximately 1 minute;
b. The educational portion of the
presentation should be about 40-50
minutes in duration; and c. The question and answer period
should be about 5-10 minutes. It is
important that each presentation start and
end on time because they are coordinated
with all other sessions. Please consider rehearsing
your presentation before the meeting ensure that it does not exceed the allotted
time.
-
Please consider the following format when
preparing the presentations:
introduction, objectives,
conclusions and recommendations. Also,
please construct your educational
presentation to be neutral
and refrain from including a company sales pitch or
product promotion.
In accepting
the invitation to participate, you have one
major responsibility: to deliver a quality
presentation that is timely, relevant and
meets the objectives of the program/topic.
If the presentation topic is industry
related, the presentation should be made in
an objective, generic manner. This is not an
opportunity to sell your company’s products
or services. Such “commercializing” during a
presentation is not well received by NCSFA
and its attendees and is not acceptable. I
addition, comments about how your company
compares to others are not acceptable
either.
-
Each speaker should be aware that
podium-mounted computers, lighting, and
microphones may not always be dependable.
You may wish to be prepared to give your
presentation without these aids, if
necessary.
-
Please remember that NCSFA does not condone
any sexual innuendo, ethnic references,
profanity, or disparaging remarks about any
group of persons, or any other comments
which could disrupt the learning environment
at any Meeting presented to its attendees.
-
Please
remember that handouts serve as a source of
reference material for review of your
presentation at a later date and can reduce
the amount of note-taking required. Handouts
should be up-to-date, generic in nature and
may include your company name.
-
It is encouraged that all speakers to report
at least 15 minutes prior to the start of
their session so they can ensure the
presentation is on the computer. In
addition, we encourage each presenter to
bring a back-up of your presentation on CD
or memory stick.
